RKL, a leading professional services firm with an office in Exton, has once again partnered with Sage Policy Group to publish an Economic Outlook for Central and Southeastern Pennsylvania.

The December 2019 report finds that these regions collectively lost 1,500 positions on net in October and, over the past six months, added an average of just 2,200 net new jobs per month. This translates into 44 percent slower job growth than in 2018.

While places like Harrisburg, York, and Lancaster continue to exhibit anemic job growth, the Philadelphia area continues to add jobs at a healthy clip, mirroring a nationwide trend of disproportionate levels of job growth in major urban areas.

The report also finds that:

  • Despite recent indications of softening economic growth in Southeastern Pennsylvania, the region continues to pace the Commonwealth in terms of job growth.
  • In Central and Southeastern Pennsylvania, the health services sector added more jobs than the next three fastest sectors combined between June 2018 and June 2019 in the area of interest.
