Leslie Brun, the chairman and CEO of Wayne-based Sarr Group, attributes his success since arriving in the U.S. from his native Haiti to his people skills, writes John Timpane for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

In addition to heading the holding company that handles his investments, the Wayne resident is also vice chairman and senior partner at G100 Cos., lead independent director of Broadridge Financial Solutions, member of the board at Corning, lead director of Merck & Co., and chair of Hewlett-Packard Enterprise’s compensation committee.

When he was deciding his future, his first goal was to not be in banking.

“I got a bachelor’s in social welfare at the University of Buffalo, and I came home to New York and started driving a cab,” said Brun. “That did not make my parents happy.”

Still, his degree and time spent working as a cab driver proved useful to his success.

“Every success is about how you find a way to connect with someone,” he said. “I credit my background in social welfare and my time as a taxi driver – those really helped me develop my people skills.”
