Tony Polito, a West Chester-area barber who has amassed an impressive list of famous customers over the years, is celebrating six decades of cutting hair, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News.

Among the many whose hair Polito has styled over the years are the late actor Ernest Borgnine, Wawa founder Grahame Wood, and former Eagles star Bill Bergey.

The barber first opened a shop in 1959 at the corner of Routes 202 and 1. He remained there for two decades before moving into his current location on Route 202, not far from Jimmy John’s.

Being a barber is not the only thing Polito is known for. He served on West Chester Borough Council and was first sergeant of the Westtown Township Police Department. He was also active in the West Chester Fire Department and was a state constable for nearly three decades.

And even after six decades in business, he has no intention of retiring.

“As long as my health holds up, I’ll be here,” Polito said. “I’m not planning to retire.”
