United Way’s Live United in Music Raises Funds for Financial Stability Center

By

United Way of Chester County recently hosted Live United in Music, an annual fundraiser that benefits its Financial Stability Center, at Penn Oaks Golf Club in West Chester.

Corporate sponsors, volunteers, donors, and other guests gathered to enjoy a performance from Mike Yung, a 58-year-old singer from Brooklyn who rose to fame on NBC’s America’s Got Talent and whose story captivated America.

As a teenager, the talented Yung signed with RCA and eventually landed at T-Electric, the same label as Etta James and Luther Vandross. Yung was gearing up to be a household name when the label suddenly went bankrupt, and his debut album was never released. After being forced to find a way to make a living to support his family, he began busking in the subway. For the past 37 years, Yung’s voice has been reverberating throughout New York City’s subway system.

In 2016, a video of him singing the Righteous Brothers classic “Unchained Melodies” went viral, accumulating more than 100 million views. He recently completed a 20-show tour in Europe.

Citadel once again served as the event’s presenting sponsor, while Brumbaugh Wealth Management, CCRES, Dallas and Di Krapf, and CTDI served as lead sponsors.

The United Way’s Financial Stability Center coordinates with PA CareerLink-Chester County and other partners to provide a variety of social services under one roof. A navigator works with clients to create a customized plan to help each Chester County resident achieve their financial goals.
