Chester County Hospital has been honored as a 2019 top performer in the Bernard A. Birnbaum, M.D., Quality Leadership Award from Vizient. The hospital placed No. 1 nationwide in the complex care medical center category and was one of seven healthcare facilities in the country to achieve this recognition.

Chester County Hospital earned the honor by demonstrating superior performance in delivering high-quality care. To determine the annual award winners, Vizient measured hospitals across the country using its Quality and Accountability Study. The study identifies high-performing facilities in the areas of quality and safety by using six domains of data. The measures include:

  • safety
  • mortality
  • effectiveness
  • efficiency and patient-centeredness
  • leveraging information in the Vizient Clinical Data Base
  • performance in core measures data, the HCAHPS survey, and the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network

“Being ranked as No. 1 nationwide for quality and leadership in our category demonstrates the focus and hard work put in by Chester County Hospital’s staff and providers to achieve the highest quality care for our community,” said Dr. Karen Pinsky, the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer.

The award was presented during the 2019 Vizient Fall Connections Summit in October in Las Vegas.

“For more than 125 years, we have strived to ensure that care is accessible, safe, effective, efficient, and patient-centered for our friends, families, and neighbors,” said Michael J. Duncan, Chester County Hospital’s President and CEO. “This recognition comes ahead of our expansion grand opening and further illustrates our commitment to caring for our community with the highest level of quality possible.”
