The YMCA of Greater Brandywine raised a record amount of more than $170,000 during the 10th Annual Chester County Corporate Golf Outing held at Stonewall last month.

The total was more than five times the amount raised in 2010, the first year the event was held. This event, presented by Precor, raises funds to benefit the Seventh-Grade Initiative, which offers any seventh-grader in Chester County a complimentary one-year membership to the YMCA.

“The Seventh-Grade Initiative program is critical to healthy youth development,” said Denise L. Day, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Brandywine. “We are proud that the Y is able to help kids discover their passions, develop a sense of belonging, and achieve their personal or educational goals at such an important time in their lives.”

As kids face adolescence’s challenges during their early teen years, they’re more likely to begin distancing themselves from formal organizations, friends, and family and to experiment with unhealthy behaviors. The Seventh-Grade Initiative is an opportunity for the Y to engage, cultivate, and connect with youth at a time that is most crucial to their development.

This year’s Corporate Golf Outing was an opportunity for 130 area business leaders to play golf on the exclusive greens at Stonewall in Elverson and support the more than 1,400 local seventh-grade YMCA memberships given annually through event sponsorships, registration fees, and live auction proceeds.
