Lily Walker, 14, has been a member of the Karakung Swim Club in Ardmore since she was 5. Now, the swim club is helping her out with a fundraiser for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, writes Linda Stein for Main Line Media News.

The club raised about $2,500 on behalf of Walker, a Haverford High School freshman who was diagnosed with brain cancer in March.

During her next visit to CHOP, Walker will bring items donated by the swim club, including art supplies, videos, games, books, and puzzles for Child Life at CHOP, a program for patients and their siblings.

“It may not sound like a lot, but we also got tons of donations for the children to use in the cancer unit,” said Tara Chester, who organized the event.

Walker, whose passion is running, is undergoing chemotherapy, said her mom, Megan Walker. They are hopeful the treatments will further reduce her tumor, which has already lessened.

“It was really nice, really sweet,” Megan said about the fundraiser. “There was a good turnout. Maybe 100 people came.”

“It was awesome,” Lily said. “It really showed our support.”
