Fifteen years after he left the company, Glenmoore resident John Zillmer has returned to Aramark to become its new CEO, writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

His return to the food and uniform services provider follows a period of turmoil that resulted in the ousting of previous CEO Eric J. Foss and a revamping of the board. This was all prompted by activist investor Paul C. Hilal, who currently controls 20 percent of Aramark.

After leaving Aramark, Zillmer became CEO of companies in Scottsdale and Seattle, but he never left Chester County. Instead, he chose to commute during the week and spend weekends at home.

“We love Chester County,” he said. “We’ve got friends, our church, the whole community.”

Also, he and his wife, who manages the couple’s charitable foundation, have a daughter who still lives in Chester County. As a result, they are always close to five of their seven grandchildren.

Zillmer’s priority as CEO is to determine what can be done, so Aramark does better going forward.

“I believe the company needs to reinvigorate its hospitality focus, its customer focus,” he said.
