Back by popular demand, Joel Katz & The Dynamics return to Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 8 PM with a new show. This production will feature 1960’s pop and soul music with a full band. The opening act, a cappella group Quiet Storm, is also an Uptown! favorite. Combined, they promise an evening to remember and one that will surely bring back memories.
Katz has been a major force in keeping ’50s and ’60s music alive for the past five decades. He is known as the voice of New Jersey Doo Wop music, with a passion for vocal harmonies that has taken him from his roots in New Jersey to concert halls in New York, Pennsylvania, and as far away as Hamburg, Germany.
Katz’s tenor voice has fronted many groups, including The Autumns, The Wizards, The Platinums, The Connotations, Twilight, and the elite Doo Wop group The Cliftonaires. He has also sung with The Brooklyn Bridge, The Five Discs, and The Impalas.
A background vocalist on the Aaron Neville album My True Story and Hooray for the Riff Raff album Navigator, Katz has “sung with so many groups, that I’ve became a voice without a face.”
Uptown! audiences would beg to differ and typically clamor to snag their favorite seats in a crowded theater.
Katz formed Joel and the Dymensions in the early 1990s, joined by Johnny Maestro (The Crests and Brooklyn Bridge), Larry Chance (The Earls), and Bobby Jay (Larks and Teenagers). They performed and recorded for nearly 20 years.
His most recent effort is Joel Katz and the Dynamics, a group of talented stars who consistently wow their audiences. At Uptown!, they will perform classic music of the Brooklyn Bridge, The Rascals, the Union Gap, Smokey Robinson, and much more.
Quiet Storm will open the concert with their dulcet, a cappella harmonies, also performing hits from the 1960s, including Etta James, Ray Charles, the Heartbeats, and the Temptations!
