The Kmart in the West Goshen Shopping Center will close its doors for good by mid-December, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

“After careful review, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to close the Kmart store in West Chester, Pa., at West Goshen Shopping Center,” said Larry Costello, a spokesman for Kmart’s parent company, Transform Holdco.

The liquidation sale is already underway, with all the products marked down by 10 to 30 percent.

The “Everything must go” signs have left many longtime customers saddened to see their favorite store become the latest victim to the current retail apocalypse.

“This is my go-to for essentials and non-essentials,” said Helen Roberts. “It’s easy and close to me. I’m bummed.”

Meanwhile, Frances Jacobs of West Chester said the store’s closure will hurt a lot of people, especially its staff.

The closest alternative is the Walmart on Main Street in Exton.

The Kmart in West Goshen is one of nearly 100 Sears and Kmart stores slated to close in December or earlier. Last month, the two remaining Kmart stores in neighboring Delaware County were also shuttered.
