Malvern resident Mark Bevevino and his son Frank captured video of a massive whale breaching water and feeding while they were fishing off the coast of Sea Isle City, writes Brandon Longo for 6ABC.

The two men were recently enjoying a nice morning when they came across a large bait of bunker in the water. However, they noticed some other movement in the water as well.

“We were catching bunker, and we thought we heard a whale come to the surface and saw some movement in the water,” Mark said. “I started filming while my son was taking a fish off the hook.”

His instinct to reach for his phone proved fruitful. As soon as he started filming, the whale popped out of the water, leaving both men in awe and with a once-in-a-lifetime video of the encounter. From the video, the whale appears to be a humpback.

“It was just luck I caught it on my iPhone,” Mark said. “I was hoping just to see him come up for air in the distance.”
