Nathanael Ogden, a 13-year-old from West Chester who has been severely impacted by Bardet Biedl Syndrome, continues to fight for himself and others who have the rare genetic disorder by raising awareness and money for research, according to a report from the Daily Local News.

BBS is a complex syndrome that causes a defect in the way cells communicate with each other. It affects around one in 250,000 people in North America.

Due to the disorder, Ogden, an eighth-grader, has lost 95 percent of his vision over the last 10 years. But thanks to his fighting spirit, he has not stopped enjoying the things he’s always loved. It also got him on the path to fight for what is important.

On Sunday, Ogden and his father, Tim, will tackle the third annual Rocky Ride for Bardet Biedl Syndrome. The journey starts in Malvern and will conclude with a triumphant run up the famous steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The funds raised from the ride benefit the Clinical Registry Investigating Bardet Biedl Syndrome, which helps researchers work on effective and targeted treatment for those affected with the syndrome.
