VIDEO: Pharma Exec Launches Chinese Restaurant in Exton to Give His Employees a Taste of Home

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Mama Wong, a new restaurant on Eagleview Boulevard in Exton that offers authentic Szechuan cuisine, has attracted a more diverse crowd than its initial target audience.

Song Li – the founder of Frontage Holdings, a nearby pharmaceutical lab that employs several chemists, scientists, and pharmacists who are Chinese – co-owns the restaurant. He started Mama Wong to offer his employees a taste of home.

“Most of them don’t eat outside of the house frequently,” Li recently told The Philadelphia Inquirer. “So I wanted Mama Wong’s food to remind them of the food their mothers prepared.”

As the above video attests, Mama Wong offers some of the best examples of regional Chinese cooking in the Philadelphia area. In addition to the signature Szechuan heat, the restaurant features Shanghai soup dumplings and Cantonese seafood, as well as Nanjing flavors.

The menu is prepared by chef Hongbin Luo, a veteran of Han Dynasty in both New York and Philadelphia.
