Immaculata University has announced that Downingtown resident Betsy Trego, Class of 2010, will receive the Scientia Floret Virtute Award and West Chester resident Kathleen Mendte Logan, Class of 1960, will receive the Alumni Medal at the Immaculata Awards Gala on Oct. 18.

The Scientia Floret Virtute Award is presented to alumni who have graduated within the last 10 years and have made outstanding contributions in their profession or to their community, or who have provided service to Immaculata University while upholding the mission and values of Immaculata.

Trego works at Bright Horizons, serving in three positions: a pre-kindergarten teacher, a child development associate advisor, and an educational coordinator. In these positions, Trego is responsible for supporting teachers seeking an associate degree and ensuring classrooms and lessons are of the highest quality. Because of her desire to create an active and engaging learning environment, Trego was awarded the Excellence in Care and Education Award, which honors a teacher who delivers an exceptional environment that fosters growth and learning.

As an alumna, Trego continues to attend various Immaculata events, such as reunions and Carol Night, and she serves on the alumni board of governors. In her community, Trego holds an active role in her local volunteer fire department, acting as outreach coordinator and taking care of their fundraising and event planning.

The Alumni Medal is presented in recognition of outstanding volunteer service and support of Immaculata University.

Logan graduated from Immaculata with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and later attended the University of Pennsylvania to earn her master’s in reading and education. After receiving these degrees, she went on to pursue a career in education, teaching reading and English until she retired in 2000.

Since graduating from Immaculata in 1960, Logan has remained dedicated to her alma mater by spending nearly 35 years as her class representative. As such, Logan acts as a liaison between the women of her class and the university, providing information about alumni events and the activities of her class. Logan has also volunteered for numerous campus events, such as the annual alumni telethon, and served as chair of alumni reunion weekend.

A true Immaculata advocate, Logan encourages camaraderie among her classmates, continued involvement, and giving back to the university.
