Hey local golfers, it’s time to set up tee-times. Topgolf has received a go-ahead to proceed with building a facility in Upper Merion Township.

The site is located at what had been referred to as the “Holy Donut,” located at 588 N. Gulph Rd.

In a county that loves golf, it appears to be a destination spot for anyone who loves to tee-it-up and hit golf balls.

Topgolf is part of a growing sports entertainment company based out of Dallas, Texas. The company is expanding across the region, and has a facility in Mount Laurel, N.J. It also caters to youth golfers – as the company said is an ability to expand the sport.

It is projected the facility will inject $35 million into the community during construction (which includes at least 450 jobs) and once opened more than $30 over a 10-year period. It will be open year-around.

The property, according to township meeting notes, will sign on to a 20-year commitment. It will include natural refurbishments, help with storm water controls and other environmental improvements.

The hours of operation, still not etched in stone, will be from 8 a.m. until 2 a.m. nightly. Aside from the golf aspects, it will include serving food and beverages and also a catering service.

It’s expected the complex will serve 450,000 golf-lovers annually.

The project calls for demolishing two existing structures at the former American Baptist Church, according to plans filed with the township and Montgomery County. One of the structures is a 145,000-square-foot circular building – referred to as the Holy Donut – and the other is a 126,000-square-foot, crescent-shaped building.

Topgolf provides golf lessons as well as games, competitions and also serves as a venue for parties and events.

Most of Topgolf’s facilities are three stories, total between 60,000 square feet and 65,000 square feet, and employ several hundred people.
