Older adults in Chester County have several options to choose from to stay in shape, ranging from spinning at CycleBar in West Chester to boxing at Purenergy Studio in Paoli, writes Melissa Jacobs for Main Line Today.

Susan Zacharkiw of Pocopson Township has found that high-speed indoor cycling several times a week at CycleBar works the best for her.

“It hasn’t caused any additional knee pain or back pain,” said Zacharkiw, 61. “I actually think my knee feels better now that I’m cycling.”

In addition to cycling, Zacharkiw is a member of the Kennett Area YMCA where she lifts free weights and takes group fitness classes.

Wynnewood’s Lynn Arnold chose something different through the encouragement of her son who boxes. When she started boxing and doing Haganah, a form of Krav Maga, at Purenergy Studio, the then-51-year-old was significantly out of shape and suffered back pain.

Seven years later, she has lost nearly 30 pounds and gained muscle mass.

“The more muscle you build, the more fat you burn,” she said. “As time went on, my core strength got stronger, and my back pain disappeared.”
