A new kind of entertainment is coming to Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center … magic.

Wednesday, June 26 will mark the first time magicians have performed there, as six award-winning, family-friendly magic acts will take the stage in one evening, beginning at 7 PM.

The International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM) is the world’s largest organization dedicated to the art of magic, and it has more than 300 “Rings” with nearly 11,000 members in 88 countries. The core of IBM Ring 6, which is based in Springfield, will offer a high level of audience participation and plenty of old-fashioned wonderment to Uptown!

David Hale is an IBM member from West Chester. From Berwyn to Beijing and Ardmore to Australia, he has performed all over the world and has appeared at events alongside such celebrity magicians as David Copperfield and Lance Burton. He has even entertained the former First Family of the United States.

The Gustafsons, Richard and Joanne, first achieved national prominence when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1967. They have presented their illusions and dazzling magic for 50 years on stages around the world, performing with stars, including Joan Rivers, Johnny Mathis, Shelly Berman, and the unforgettable George Burns. Richard shares his status as past National President of the Society of American Magicians (S.A.M.) with Harry Houdini among others.

J. Hunter Gaul has studied and performed magic for more than 60 years. He is the past Program Director for IBM Ring 6 and was the Ring’s president for seven consecutive years. He continues to enjoy producing “experiences of wonder” for people of all ages, whenever the opportunity arises.

Jim Daly’s comedy and magic show is not to be missed. A curled and styled white beard catches audience members from the very beginning, and from there, they are set at ease with his humorous performance and bag full of tricks. The Philadelphia Inquirer said that “Jim has the unique ability of making people laugh and mystifying them at the same time.” And GQ magazine remarked said his “beard (is) as fantastic as his performance.”

Jay Derek has been studying and performing magic for more than 25 years in a variety of venues. He is a winner of multiple competitions. He frequently performs with his assistant and wife, Rochelle.

After having been hypnotized on stage at the age of 16 by the Amazing Kreskin, Lazarus began delving into the paranormal. He has been mesmerizing audiences for 60-plus years. Within the community of psychic entertainers, he is what is known as a “reader.” With five senses that have been so highly developed, he can only be described as having a “sixth” sense.
