The Atlanta Hawks took a risk in last week’s NBA draft, waiting for the No. 10 pick to choose Duke’s Cam Reddish, a Westtown School graduate, writes Chris Vivlamore for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk said he had a good idea Reddish, a Norristown native, would still be available that late in the lottery and called his decision to wait a calculated risk.

“A lot of ways it’s a home run for us,” said Atlanta coach Lloyd Pierce. “He is a guy we talked about at the beginning of the year as a potential asset to add to the roster, and to get him at 10 is a steal in a lot of ways.”

According to Schlenk, the Hawks have had their eye on Reddish since his high school days at Westtown and have followed him ever since.

Reddish has ambitious plans for his first year in the NBA.

“Rookie of the Year is my ultimate goal,” he said.
