Music and art are often orphaned subjects in school, especially in this era of the Common Core.

The Kennett Symphony is picking up that slack in educating young and under-served audiences in Chester County. Part of its mission is to provide opportunities for young artists and capable musicians to perform.

Show your support for the Symphony at its Seventh Annual Beat Beethoven – an event that consists of a 5K Run, One Mile Walk, and Kids Fun Dash – on Saturday, June 8 at Anson B. Nixon Park in Kennett Square.

The Kennett Symphony, which presents a wide range of symphonic music at an affordable price to entertain and enrich the lives of its audience, cannot fulfill its educational outreach initiatives without the support generated from fundraisers like Beat Beethoven.

Therefore, take your classical music “in stride” and see if you can beat the renowned composer. The race will start with the downbeat of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. Your goal is to finish the 5K before the Symphony finishes playing. Beethoven himself runs the race every year and has always finished with time to spare.

Brandywine Valley Heating and Air Conditioning is the presenting sponsor for this race for serious runners, as well as beginners and families. Light refreshments will be provided.
