Olivia Djamoos, a nine-year-old girl from Malvern, penned a handwritten letter to 76ers center Joel Embiid to help lift his spirits after a heartbreaking loss in the NBA playoffs, writes Christie Ileto for 6ABC.

Embiid walked to the locker room in tears after the 76ers were eliminated from the playoffs by the Toronto Raptors.

“I thought he showed his emotions,” said Olivia. “I knew he was upset that he lost. I’ve lost basketball games, too!”

“Dear Joel Embiid, you are my favorite player,” the letter read. “I am sorry that you lost. I saw you crying on TV. It’s ok to lose sometimes. I lost basketball games too. You got so far, and I’m proud of you and the 76ers!”

The girl’s mother, Melissa Djamoos, was especially proud of the empathy her daughter felt for the heartbroken player.

“I feel so proud of her that she recognized he was upset,” said Djamoos.

The girl hopes that the letter will cheer up her favorite player and that her team will make another run for the championship next year.
