Total Heir, a seven-month-old colt, has successfully recovered from eye trauma at the New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, writes Sacha Adorno for Penn Vet.

Total Heir – owned by Cathy Vincent, the co-owner of Adandy Farm in Greenwood, Del. – had suffered blunt force trauma to his eye.

“We’re not sure exactly what caused the injury, but as soon as his caretakers saw the eye, they called our regular veterinarian,” said Vincent. “She took one look and told them to go right to New Bolton Center.”

The colt was in the hospital two hours later, with his eye already filled with blood. As soon as he arrived, Total Heir was treated by Dr. Nicole Scherrer, Clinical Assistant Professor of Large Animal Ophthalmology.

Two days later, he received a tissue plasminogen activator. The blood then cleared out in 12 hours, and he was able to go home.

“Total Heir is one of the loveliest babies in the entire world and super easy to work with,” said Scherrer.  “It’s a huge credit to the barn. We love him very much!”
