Great Valley HS Captures $15,000 Top Prize in Statewide Contest for This Distracted Driving PSA

Great Valley High School has won the top prize in the inaugural “Just Drive” public service announcement video contest from the Pennsylvania DUI Association, writes Max Bennett for the Malvern Patch.

The students from GVHS created a 30-second video showing the potentially devastating consequences from a one-second decision to check your phone while driving.

First place in the contest, held in partnership with NJM Insurance Group, came with a prize of $15,000. The funds will go toward a post-prom, post-graduation, or safe driving program.

Thirty-four high schools from Pennsylvania entered their videos on distracted driving, which is a growing epidemic on the country’s roadways.

“Our PSA contest empowers teens to work together to develop compelling safety campaigns and encourage each other and their peers to ‘just drive.’” said Tracy McManimon, NJM senior vice president and chief underwriting officer.

The announcement of the winners was made to coincide with Distracted Driving Awareness Month and was celebrated with a screening party at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Those attending got the opportunity to see all three winning entries, along with a montage of all 34 entries.
