In celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month, Terell Stafford, an acclaimed trumpet player based in New York City, and the Terell Stafford Quartet will perform American Standards at Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center in West Chester on Thursday, April 25.

Vocalist Rhenda Fearrington will join the ensemble, with a tribute to the late Nancy Wilson. This Main Stage event is part of the theater’s Jazz Cocktail Hour, a monthly program featuring top-notch professional artists from Philadelphia and New York City who represent the diverse American art form called jazz. The series is hosted by vocalist Sara Michaels.

Hailed as “one of the great players of our time, a fabulous trumpet player” by piano legend McCoy Tyner, Stafford is recognized as an incredibly gifted and versatile player who combines a deep love of melody with his own brand of spirited and adventurous lyricism.

Stafford is a member of the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, recipient of a Grammy Award in 2009 for Best Large Ensemble.

Fearrington is a returning fan favorite at Uptown!, where she is known as one of the theater’s “Uptown! Divas.” Her 40-plus years as a professional singer has included touring the U.S. and globally as a backup singer for Mtume and Roberta Flack.
