A 1948 Dodge Business Coupe from Downingtown has new life after a deluxe restoration by its new owner, writes Matthew Litwin for Hemmings Classic Car.

For decades, Chris Evans of Scottsdale, Ariz., had wanted a replacement for his first car, a 1948 Dodge Business Coupe. Then, opportunity knocked in 2007.

“I was at an auction in Atlantic City, N.J., and happened to spot a discrete note on a bulletin board offering a 1948 Dodge Business Coupe for sale in Downingtown, Pa.,” said Evans.

He called the seller, and after receiving photos of the car, he had it shipped to Scottsdale.

Once the car arrived, he found it was in decent condition, but there were plenty of things that needed fixing.

“I planned to restore the Business Coupe myself, but I stored the Dodge for about a year while preparing to do so,” said Evans.

However, after more issues arose, including a rat nest on the top of the engine, he decided to let professionals take over. So he called Charly Spencer from Charly’s Garage in Mesa.

“I subcontracted several parts for refinishing, but Charly handled the rest, including reassembly,” said Evans.
