Ella Bass, a 13-year-old from Berwyn, starred in the second season of Top Chef Junior, which premiered in September on Universal Kids, writes Ed Williams for Main Line Today.

When she was just three years old, Bass and her family had to move in with her grandmother after their home was lost in a fire. It was then when Bass discovered her love for culinary arts, as she started helping her grandmother in the kitchen.

Then, after discovering she had several dietary restrictions, she started experimenting with her cooking style.

It was that creativity that earned her a spot on the popular show that features 12 contestants, ages 9-14, competing for a grand prize of $50,000. A student at Tredyffrin-Easttown Middle School, Bass made it through to the fourth episode, before being eliminated.

“Working with new ingredients and having friends my age that love to cook, I definitely was inspired by the TV part of the show,” she said.
