Phoenixville’s already-rich craft beer scene will soon get a new addition, writes Kenneth Hilario for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Steel City Coffeehouse, on Bridge Street, plans to expand its operations by opening an in-house nanobrewery.

According to Laura Vernola-Simpson and Ed Simpson, owners of Steel City, the artisanal brewing operation will start with small batch testing that will be assessed by a focus group. After that, three taps will be made available to the general public, starting sometime in November.

The new brewery’s signature beer is a coffee stout brewed with Hobo Ed’s Artisan Coffee.

Head brewer Seth Clearwater will be in charge of developing a steady rotation of beers inspired primarily by the England pubs and German beer halls.

However, the focus of the coffeehouse will not change with the new addition.

“It’s going to be a café, coffeehouse, and listening room with some of the best beer you’ll find anywhere in the Philadelphia area,” said Clearwater.
