Bucks County native and former Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer has become the only player to have his number retired in the history of Saint Joseph’s University baseball, writes Ryan Mulligan for The Hawk Newspaper.

“I’ll always be appreciative of that opportunity that I had at St. Joe’s,” said Moyer, who grew up in Sellersville, “to allow me to further my education and eventually get my degree and move on to a professional baseball career.”

Moyer pitched for the Hawks from 1982-84. His No. 10 is commemorated near the left-field foul pole on Smithson Field.

During the early 1980s, the Hawks played most of their home games on the polo fields of Bryn Mawr. During the offseason, the team often had trouble finding a field to practice on.

“What a beautiful field they have now,” said Moyer. “I wish we had that type of a field when I played at Saint Joe’s, but it just goes to show how far the program has come.”

Moyer is already a member of the Seattle Mariners’ Hall of Fame.
