Wellness Wednesday: Is Organic Really Better?

By

It is so easy to grab the organic version of your favorite snack. There is an immediate message that is sent to your brain that says ‘it’s organic, it must be good’!

I am a supporter of a clean lifestyle whenever possible, however organic does not always mean healthy. It can still be loaded with sugar and refined grains and still be labels as organic.

The other day I caught myself digging into a bag of chic pea crisps from our local whole food store and before I knew it, most of the bag was gone. Sure, they were made of chic peas and they were organic, gluten-free, soy free but they most definitely were fried!

My motto is everything in moderation. Don’t fool yourself into thinking just because it says ‘organic’ or ‘gluten free’ that it is a green light to indulge in the whole package.

Use common sense, if it is fried, breaded, creamy, made with chocolate or sweet, chances are it is still junk food.

Here are the top 5 foods I almost always try to buy organic:

  1. Dairy
  2. Apples
  3. Greens
  4. Fish & Meat
  5. Berries

Stay healthy my friends!
