Chester County Food BankFor years, QVC has been a key partner to the Chester County Food Bank, helping the nonprofit fulfill its mission to mobilize the community to ensure access to real, healthy food, writes Lini Kadaba for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The partnership started nine years ago when QVC began organizing food drives. After discussions with the Food Bank, though, the company focused on finding ways to address the most pressing need of the program: access to fresh, organic food.

Thus, five years ago, QGardens was launched. Since then, more than 60 employees have volunteered their time to work on 30 on-site raised beds across QVC’s two West Chester locations. The initiative has produced 8,000 pounds of fresh produce, which has contributed to around 42,000 meals.

“It really is a best practice,” said Suzanne Quigley, director of corporate responsibility for Qurate Retail Group, which includes QVC.

QVC also expanded its efforts two years ago by providing corporate sponsorship to the Fresh2You Mobile Market, which also offers tips on nutritional cooking.
