Some of the best cheesesteaks in the region can be found right here in Chester County, as two local eateries have made it onto Philadelphia magazine’s list of “30 Cheesesteaks to Eat Before You Die,” writes Jason Sheehan for the magazine.

John’s Pizza in Frazer offers a suburban retro atmosphere in all the right ways. It has a huge dining room with a long counter and a vintage Pac-Man machine in the corner. There are also signed pictures from Kenny Rogers, Tony Danza, and others hanging on the walls.

Located at 630 Lancaster Avenue, John’s Pizza produces a nice roster of cheesesteaks on crispy bread, with or without onions.

Meanwhile, Hog Island Steaks, located at 785 Starr Street in Phoenixville, offers a thousand sandwiches, drawing on the history of Hog Island and its connection to the “hoggie.”

However, the establishment has its own special section for cheesesteaks. There are more than a dozen varieties centered on chopped fresh beef that is thrown on the grill, before becoming a hot sandwich topped with American cheese. There is also a loaded option that includes mushrooms, peppers, and onions, thus creating the perfect example of a good “Philly-style” cheesesteak.
