Another Reason Why Chester County Is So Awesome: Organ Donation

By

Chester County has the highest rate of organ donation designations per registered drivers in the region, as PennDOT continues its efforts to save lives by registering donors during the license issuing or renewal process, write Susan Stuart and Howard Nathan for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

PennDOT centers are where around 95 percent of Pennsylvanians sign up as organ and tissue donors.

While nearly all Pennsylvanians say they support organ and tissue donations, less than half are actually registered donors. But in Greater Philadelphia, Chester County is at the top with 58.3 percent, while Montgomery County is second with 53.88 percent.

Many Pennsylvanians say they support organ donation, but do not register due to the lack of information on the issue. This is something the Center for Organ Recovery & Education and Gift of Life Donor Program are trying to change.

Volunteers and staff from both organizations are at PennDOT centers across the state, talking to people and sharing more information about organ donation.

People interested in knowing more can stop by their local PennDOT center to pick up some information and, if they wish, register as organ donors.
