West Chester native Jim Furyk, one of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour over the last two decades, is the new captain of the 2018 Ryder Cup USA team, which will defend the Cup next month in Paris, writes T.J. Auclair for the competition’s website.

The Ryder Cup is a biennial men’s golf competition between the U.S. and Europe.

A University of Arizona graduate, Furyk turned professional in 1992 before joining the PGA Tour in 1994.

He has recorded 27 professional wins in his career, including 17 on tour. His best results in major championships include winning the U.S. Open in 2003 and PGA Championship in 2013.

Furyk has also competed in the Ryder Cup nine times. His appearances are second only to Phil Mickelson’s 11 straight.

Furyk holds the record for the lowest score in PGA Tour history, when he carded a 58 at the 2016 Travelers Championship.
