Doug Pederson recalled his interview for the head-coaching job of the Philadelphia Eagles for his new book, Fearless: How an Underdog Becomes a Champion, which was recently excerpted in Sports Illustrated.

Fearless: How an Underdog Becomes a Champion is available at Wellington Square Bookshop or online at Amazon.com.

Three years ago, there was a lot of doubt that Pederson would get the job. In fact, he didn’t even prepare for the interview because he was convinced he would not be chosen.

However, what came into play was his history with the team, for which he played in 1999.

“With help from my agent, Bob LaMonte, I prepared a two-inch, three-ring binder that explained everything,” wrote Pederson.

During his interview, things flowed naturally. At the end, Pederson had to give a presentation as if he was talking to his new team on the first day.

“I talked about how we would practice, I talked about the type of culture I wanted, how we would cultivate it,” he said.

A few days later, the job was Pederson’s. He quickly led the Birds to their first Super Bowl victory, and the rest is history.
