Here’s How Pennsylvanians Use Their Vacation Days … if They’re Using Them at All

By

Fewer than half of Pennsylvanians use their vacation days to get away, according to a recently published report, writes Maria Gomez for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

“Under-Vacationed America: A State-by-State Look at Time Off” – a report powered by the U.S. Travel Association – also found that only around half of Pennsylvanians use all of their vacation days.

While employees in the Keystone State have an average of 22.7 vacation days, they only use 17.4. This puts Pennsylvania 24th out of the 50 states and District of Columbia for vacation days used. This also means that Pennsylvania leave nearly 24 million vacation days unused.

Of the time used, only 43 percent is spent traveling. One of the reasons may be that just over half of Pennsylvanians want to save money, whereas in New Jersey people have no problem splurging on their travels.

Pennsylvanians also prefer relaxing vacations, with only 28 percent looking for “rugged” time off.

According to the report, the nationwide economic impact of unused vacation time is $255 billion. Colorado ranks first for vacation days used, while Montana ranked last.
