Former attorneys Liz and Harry McMunigal of Downingtown are spending their retirement helping the community by volunteering at the Chester County Food Bank, writes Emily Kovach for the Food Bank’s blog.

Liz began volunteering in September after the couple moved to Downingtown. As a new retiree, she was looking to volunteer and discovered the annual Food Bank’s Open House. Several months later, she signed up as a backup driver for the Meals on Wheels program.

Liz then discovered the Food Bank’s kitchen and spends most of her time there. Her husband began volunteering after he retired earlier this year.

“I simply thought it was a good cause,” said Harry.

Now, Liz works two to three times a week in the kitchen preparing meals for the Meals on Wheels program, and occasionally sorts donated food and packs boxes in the warehouse.

“In the summer and fall, there are also many opportunities for bagging up produce to be given out or sold,” she said.

Harry mostly works in the warehouse, organizing food or preparing it for distribution.
