Berwyn-based B Lab has released its annual “Best for the World” list that ranks for-profit companies on their commitment to social good in six categories, writes Julie Zeglen for Generocity.

The nonprofit has been certifying companies as B Corps using a rigorous metric system for the last 11 years.

To make the “Best for the World” list, a company has to be a certified B Corp that scores in the Top 10 percent of all B Corps for its impact on the B Impact Assessment. The companies are judged on their Community, Customers, Environment, Workers, Governance, and Overall.

For example, in the Workers category, they are measured using several metrics such as compensation, benefits, training, and ownership opportunities.

The winners for 2018 come from all over the world, with the largest number from the U.S. at 469 companies, followed by Canada with 85, and Australia’s 67.

On the state level, 17 Pennsylvania companies made the cut.
