Nearly 500 works of art were recently on display at the 2018 Chester County High School Art Festival and Sixth Congressional District Art Show.

The non-juried show featured artwork by students from throughout Chester County. Also, this year’s entries were simultaneously submitted for Congressman Ryan Costello’s Congressional Art Competition for students living in the Sixth District.

Each spring across the nation, members of the U.S. House of Representatives sponsor a high school art competition, with the grand-prize winner having his/her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. The second and third place artwork will hang in Congressman Costello’s district offices.

Students from two Chester County schools received the honor:

  • First Place: Chloe Castelli, Conestoga High School
  • Second Place: Lauren Posey, Exeter Township Senior High School
  • Third Place: Sophie Cloarec, Henderson High School

“The event is an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their artistic talents in a professional gallery space while introducing Chester County residents to the great up-and-coming artists,” said Jay Stone, the Chester County Intermediate Unit art show coordinator. “County teachers encourage students to display these exceptional works of art, and members of the community look forward to and enjoy seeing their efforts year after year.”

A reception and awards ceremony took place last week, during which the Congressional Art Competition and Chester County Art Association Awards were presented.
