The nonprofit Volunteer English Program will host its celebratory fundraising dinner – “Building the Chester County Community” – on Wednesday, April 25 from 6-9 PM at The Desmond Hotel in Malvern.

For more than 30 years, VEP has been strengthening Chester County communities by connecting volunteers with adult English language learners to provide free, one-on-one tutoring and cultural enrichment.

Ken Knickerbocker, founder of American Community Journals and publisher of VISTA Today, will emcee the event.

The Liberian Women’s Chorus for Change, which is affiliated with the Philadelphia Folklore Project and brings the power of Liberian traditional song to the forefront of efforts to make communities safe and strong, will provide entertainment and enlightenment, as will Alex Ihnatsiuk, a current VEP student and native of Belarus.

VEP will honor its President Emeritus, Shirley Warren, with the Betsy Hawkes Award and the Phoenixville Community Health Foundation with the Community Partner Award.

Thanks to the dedicated work of VEP’s staff and community-engaged volunteers, thousands of hard-working adult immigrants and refugees, who have received English instruction and cultural guidance, are succeeding in the workplace, at home, and in our communities.
