Acclaimed Music, Comedy Revue Coming to WCU on Saturday

By

Through a combination of comedy and Dixieland, piano virtuoso Fred “Mickey” Finn and his wife, American Banjo Hall of Fame inductee Cathy Reilly Finn, bring the acclaimed Mickey Finn Show to West Chester University’s Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall on Saturday, April 21.

This will be the final performance on the WCU Live! 2017-2018 calendar, which has featured a diverse lineup of singers, storytellers, actors, dancers, drummers, and even dog acts, much to the delight of local audiences.

With humble beginnings in a San Diego nightclub, NBC picked up Fred’s show in 1965 as a replacement television series, which launched his decades-long career in entertainment. The Mickey Finn Show would eventually become the longest running main comedy Dixieland show in the history of Las Vegas (1966-1996). To date, the Finns have brought their show to more than 55 countries, and held residencies at Disney World, Sea World, and Princess Cruises.

While Fred is a gifted pianist and all-around showman, he’s also a composer, author, and producer of 25 network television specials throughout his career. Cathy is a former Miss Delaware, Miss America finalist, and USO Entertainer of the Year, who has enthralled millions with her artistry on the banjo. Variety has called The Mickey Finn Show “crowd-pleasing comedy laced with first-class entertainment.”

Although Fred calls the show’s music style “comedy Dixieland,” he admits that the many talented musicians in his show can play just about everything. He refers to his sound as “happy music, because it’s got that foot-stomping beat and we get the people clapping and laughing and participating.”
