Glenmoore resident Joe Howard, the CEO of Advanced Absorbent Technologies, believes his company’s new products offer dignity in incontinence, writes Diane Mastrull for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Howard’s five-year-old business has devised a way to absorb urine that does not require wood pulp. This provides significantly thinner and more dignified underwear options for adults grappling with incontinence than those currently offered by large corporations, like Procter & Gamble.

“We truly believe this is a paradigm shift in the category,” said Howard.

The company’s new Alyne brand underwear for women and men is thin and flexible. Tests have shown that its less-cumbersome design does not affect absorbency.

“It’s not the most glamorous of categories, but it’s one of the most important ones,” said Howard.

And while entering a market that is dominated by some of the largest consumer-products companies may seem daunting, Advanced Absorbent Technologies believes it can meet the challenge. The company’s products will soon debut on Walmart.com. Using a secret formula, they are designed to hold two full bladders in several layers.

“I don’t want to make it too easy for my competitors to know what we are doing and where to find it,” said Howard.
