Coatesville native Johnny Weir is gaining recognition as a figure skating commentator at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, writes Patricia Madej for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Weir and his fellow commentator, Tara Lipinski, have been gaining high praise for their chemistry, analysis, and wardrobe. And as a former medal-winning figure skater himself, Weir certainly knows what he’s talking about.

He spent his early years in Chester County and remembers his roots even after moving to Delaware.

“I’m a Pennsylvania boy,” he said.

But it’s not all roses, as Weir has attracted criticism for some of his comments being perceived as too mean. He also courted controversy when he told GQ that he is a fan of both the Patriots and Eagles.

“I’m from and I live in the Greater Philadelphia area, and the Eagles have always been a part of my upbringing and my life,” he said.

PyeongChang is Weir’s and Lipinski’s third Olympics as commentators.
