Phoenixville’s Augean Robotics, which entered the Hardware Cup with its autonomous robotic carts for outdoor work, finished the competition as a semifinalist, writes Aaron Aupperlee for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The Hardware Cup has startups pitch their companies and inventions to local venture capitalists and investors. The Mid-Atlantic Regional competition took place in Pittsburgh, with twice the number of entrants as last year.

Augean Robotics presented Burro, a small robotic cart that autonomously follows workers who pick fruit or vegetables in the field.

“On many farms and operations where people work the land, a lot of time is wasted shuffling stuff back and forth,” said Charlie Anderson, CEO of Augean Robotics. “Imagine instead having a continuous virtual conveyor belt from where you’re picking, to where fruit is being collected off the field.”
