Philadelphia Eagles Legend, Owner of Downingtown Country Club Talks Football

By

Ron Jaworski, the former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and owner of the Downingtown Country Club, believes football was much simpler back when he was playing, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia magazine.

Now, “it’s all so complex,” he said, “from formations to personnel packages to analytics.”

He should know, as his job nowadays is to analyze football, something he has been doing for ESPN for the past 27 years and will continue until at least the end of his contract in 2022.

“I love it,” he said.

Jaworski, 66, is also a golf enthusiast who collects golf balls and clubs. “I have many, and I own seven golf courses, five in South Jersey and two in Pennsylvania.”

As far as his nickname (“Jaws”) is concerned, that was coined by Doug Collins, the former 76ers player and Jaworski’s next-door neighbor.

“I got it in the late ’70s, so everybody thought he was comparing me to the shark in the movie,” said Jaworski. “But it was actually because I never shut up. My jaws were always flapping.”
