The Chester County Economic Development Council has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Shimin Law Offices in an effort to increase opportunities for Chester County businesses in China, writes Brian McCullough for the Daily Local News.

The memo was signed by Michael Grigalonis, the CCEDC’s Chief Operating Officer, and Shikun Gao, a partner at Shimin Law Offices.

The establishment of a “China Desk” will promote local businesses and attractions to parties in China. The hope is to initiate new relationships and develop existing ones with investors, businesses, and potential partners there.

“The major objective is to create a competitive advantage for companies in Chester County,” said Grigalonis. “Hopefully, we can create some value to the companies here in the county.”

Many see China as a very lucrative market, but one that is filled with dangers for unwary companies. A number of Chester County companies have already made their way into the Chinese market, and County Commissioner Terence Farrell is hoping to see that number grow.

“The interest has snowballed,” said Farrell. “Now, with this China Desk, it has formalized the relationship.”
