Chester County Leaders Continue Courtship of Chinese Investors

Another trade mission to China recently yielded prospects for Chester County beer and mushrooms thanks to three weeks of work by a delegation of eight. Pictured from a previous year's trip to China are Commissioner Terence Farrell and Mike Grigalonis, COO of the Chester County Economic Development Council.

Chester County business leaders continued their courtship of Chinese investors with another date in the Far East, and the local delegation traveled bearing gifts of beer and mushrooms.

Highlighting the three-week trade mission trip to China was the cultivation of several contacts for the potential distribution and sale of West Chester’s Levante Brewing Co. craft beer in Asia.

Also, further refinements were made to a potential joint venture in which Kennett Square’s Pietro Mushrooms would help the Chinese sprout a state-of-the-art mushroom production operation near Shanghai, according to a Philadelphia Business Journal report by Jeff Blumenthal.

“The mushrooms would be grown in China,” said Chester County Economic Development Council COO Mike Grigalonis. “Pietro would offer its technical expertise and technology.”

Led by Grigalonis, the local delegation of eight visited five Chinese cities, looking to strike up business deals and promote Chinese tourism back to Chester County.
