Chester County Food Bank, the Exton-based hunger relief organization serving distributing over 2.7 million pounds of food to Chester County residents with limited or uncertain access to adequate food, has the following Intern position posted:

Raised Bed Garden Intern

Raised Bed Gardens, a project of the Chester County Food Bank (CCFB), holds historical roots stemming from the Gleaning Program in 1997.

The Raised Bed Garden Program was adopted by Chester County Food Bank in 2009 with six partner garden sites. The program has since grown to over 100 partner gardens hosted at schools, food cupboards, health care agencies, and religious organizations.

Last year’s garden efforts totaled over 40,000 pounds of fresh vegetables for the Food Bank’s network of food cupboards, meal sites, and social service agencies.

Under the direction of the Raised Bed Garden Manager, the Raised Bed Garden Intern will work on-site at one of the Food Bank’s community gardens throughout Chester County.

A primary focus of the Raised Bed Garden Bed intern will be to critically analyze the participation of residents at Fairview Village, a Chester County Housing Authority site with 25 raised beds and a small field, reimagining how the Food Bank can engage this community to inspire activity in the garden for years to come.

In addition to being punctual, reliable, and willing to work a flexible schedule, including some Saturday’s, candidates for this unpaid intern position must have a demonstrated interest in community-based health, local food systems, and seasonal foods in Eastern Pennsylvania.
