The Maryland-based chain of convenience stores, known for its “world-famous chicken,” has opened its first store in Chester County, located at 5031 Horseshoe Pike in Downingtown.
Royal Farms will employ 40-50 people, including up to five managers, at this location.
Royal Farms began as a dairy farm in 1918. The dairy farm was family-owned and evolved into the chain that now operates 183 stores in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn recently joined East Goshen Township officials in a tour of the 55-acre East Goshen Park Playground undergoing renovation and incorporating strong nature-based play elements.
The tour provided Dunn and other DCNR representatives an opportunity to discuss an ongoing playground rehabilitation under way. Designed with heavy input from township youngsters, the playground will feature fabricated tree stump and boulder seating; monarch butterfly designs; and abundant tree plantings.
“This innovative playground sends out an open invitation to the region’s youth to enter, not just to play, but to learn about conservation and the natural world around them,” Dunn said. “This facility reinforces the township’s position as a municipal environmental leader.”
The project at 1661 Paoli Pike in West Chester is nearing completion.
