Phoenixville’s steadfastness is one of the focal points of a new book written by Dar Williams, the popular musician who has spent two decades performing in small towns, writes Trent Gillies for CNBC.

Williams, who has sold millions of albums, drew from her experiences traveling the country to create her book What I Found in a Thousand Towns. And the musician does not hide her love for Phoenixville.

“They rose up from their post-industrial, post-steel mill past just on their own steam,” she said.

One of the things that particularly struck the singer/songwriter is the borough’s annual Blobfest. The festival celebrates the 1957 horror movie The Blob that was filmed in the area.

“This one weekend they talk about sci-fi, it can get very serious,” said Williams.

With this festival, she believes Phoenixville shows how much can be achieved if a town simply digs into its own identity. It even inspired her to come up with her new motto, “Every Town has a Blob.”
