Vanguard volunteers join together for a group photo, marking the end of the 2017 All Cans on Deck food drive.

Vanguard, the mutual fund giant based in Malvern, recently concluded its annual food drive, entitled All Cans on Deck.

The drive is a key initiative of the Vanguard Gives Back program, and serves local agencies in Pennsylvania, Arizona, and North Carolina. This year, Vanguard donated 893 tons of food: a 63 percent increase from the forecasted goal of 500 tons.

New to the program this year was the ability for Vanguard crew (employees) to donate by credit card, and those donations were eligible for a company match. This advancement to the program came after listening to the needs of local agencies and taking into account the tremendous buying power many nonprofits have.

Carra Cote-Ackah, director of Vanguard’s Community Stewardship efforts, speaks to Vanguard volunteers and the local agencies involved with All Cans On Deck.

“Dollars go farther when you give them to your partner,” said Carra Cote-Ackah, director of Vanguard’s Community Stewardship efforts. “Vanguard has built a legacy of generosity, and we’re looking to become a more intentional steward on behalf of our communities.”

The Chester County Food Bank was among the several nonprofits in Pennsylvania to which Vanguard donated non-perishables and money.
