Women professionals, business owners, and community members gathered for Gawthrop Greenwood’s Sixth Annual Women’s Networking Event, held April 27 in the atrium of the law firm’s offices in West Chester. The relaxed evening of cocktails and connections included colleagues, clients, and local dignitaries.

The event was launched six years ago by Gawthrop Greenwood partner Sandra Knapp.

“I am continually impressed by the caliber of successful women who gather each year for a memorable evening at our Women’s Networking Event,” said Knapp. “Each conversation provides inspiration and support, and we feel honored to celebrate the accomplishments of the great women in our community.”

Maddie Moynihan

2017 Relay for Life of Central Chester County

The American Cancer Society has selected local cancer survivor, Maddie Moynihan, to serve as Honorary Chair for the 2017 Relay for Life of Central Chester County. The 24-hour event takes place from May 20-21 on the track at Downingtown West High School.

Moynihan, 15, of Collegeville, is a freshman at Methacton High School and the daughter of James and Kimberly Moynihan. In August 2015, she was diagnosed with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer where cells form in muscle tissue. She courageously underwent almost a year of chemotherapy treatments following her diagnoses.

However, Moynihan recently had her nine-month post treatment scans, which are reported to be clear and cancer-free.

Phoenix Services

Olympus Partners, a Stamford, Conn.-based private equity firm, is considering a sale of Kennett Square’s Phoenix Services, a steel mill support-services company, writes Kiel Porter for Bloomberg.

Phoenix could fetch as much as $900 million. No final decision has been made, and Olympus could elect to keep the company.

In 2009, Olympus took a majority stake in Phoenix, and grew the company by acquiring France’s Gagneraud Industries two years later. Phoenix – which generates about $120 million in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization – was the subject of a prior sale attempt in 2014.

Unionville-Chadds Ford School District

The Unionville-Chadds Ford School District is pushing back the start time for its schools, as it cites research from the American Academy of Pediatrics that touts the academic and health benefits of a later start.

The district has decided on an 8 AM start for high school and middle school students, beginning next year school, instead of 7:35 AM. The school day, which currently ends at 2:18 PM, will end at 2:43 PM.

Gemelli Artisanal Gelato and Dessert Café

Vincenzo Tettamanti, the maestro of West Chester’s Gemelli Artisanal Gelato and Dessert Café, won the prestigious People’s Choice Award – voted on by industry professionals, food critics, media, and special guests – at the recent Gelato World Tour in New York City.

Tettamanti’s flavor was Goat Cheese and Fig Balsamic Reduction, made with creamy, fresh goat cheese gelato folded with a handcrafted balsamic and fig reduction.

Coatesville Self Storage

Coatesville Self Storage, owned by Storage Construction of York, recently opened at 99 North Caln Road.

Storage Construction has hired Storage Asset Management Inc., a full-service self-storage property management and consulting company, to manage daily operations.

The property is approximately 68,000 square feet of rentable storage space, comprising of 565 total units. The storage facility contains a variety of sizes in temperature-controlled storage units.

Family Promise of Southern Chester County

Residents, visitors, family, and friends are invited to enjoy the harmonious sounds of the Unionville Presbyterian Church Choir, directed by William E. Johnson, at a special benefit concert to support Family Promise of Southern Chester County on Saturday, May 13 at 6 PM. The concert is free, open to the public, and will be held at Unionville Presbyterian Church located at 815 Wollaston Road in Kennett Square. A dessert reception will follow the concert.
